LAUNCHING OF MPA STAFF'S CHILDREN INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME BY YB ROSEY BT. HJ. YUNUS a
a Being a responsible corporate citizen, Miri Port Authority (MPA) has since its inception in 1981, had in its own small way played an active role in various Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programmes such as in charity work, fire fighting services and education. Significantly, Miri Port Authority's well structured Industrial Training Programme implemented since 2000 in collaboration with IPTA and IPTS for undergraduates taking Diplomas and Degrees relevant to Miri Port Authority's operational activities, gained good responses from students from IPTAs and IPTS throughout the country. Good reviews have been accorded for its systematic and highly engaged training programme from those institutions making MPA a popular choice for industrial training. In keeping the quality of the programme, MPA selectively accepted about 30 students out of 100 applications over the period. Currently 7 students are undergoing on the job training as part of the fulfillment in obtaining their Diplomas and Degrees.
As an extension of its Corporate Service Responsibility (CSR) programmes, the Management of MPA, under the visionary leadership of its General Manager, En. Shebli Bin Hairani , has designed its Staff's Children Internship Programme (“SCIP”), which shall be one of its on-going activities towards human capital building. All MPA staff's children who have just completed their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) shall be eligible to apply. Among the objectives of SCIP is to provide an avenue for the interns to develop specific skills to facilitate their realization of self-potential and latent talents and to develop necessary Attitude, Skills and Knowledge (ASK) in order to have a head start in the current highly competitive job market. With the implementation of SCIP, it is hoped that the interns will not only undergo a fast track development process within MPA but also with associated private sectors which will mould them into a potential competent, adaptable and resourceful employees.
Present at July Monthly Assembly to launch the SCIP was YB Rosey Bt. Hj. Yunus, ADUN N61 Bekenu, who is also MPA's Chairman. As a former educator, this programme jives well with her belief in lifelong learning. Also present was Miri Port Authority's Board of Director, En. Peter Telajan, the General Manager, En. Shebli Bin Hairani and Staffs of Miri Port Authority.
